The project aimed at the development of field programmable gate array based control algorithms for the integration and control of power electronics interfaced inverters and converters. Since FPGA is a parallel computing processor with higher oscillator frequencies, it helped in faster evaluation of the control designs.
Objective : The consortium is conducting cutting-edge collaborative research that will allow a continued increase of renewable energy penetration into our electric distribution grid. It is segregated into various themes for the accomplishment of the vision. Role : Major contributions to Theme -4 (Microgrid and Active Distribution System) and Theme-8 (Lab testing and Validations). Execution of other technical and administrative responsibilities.
The research work revolves around the real time and time domain modeling of Cyber Physical Microgrids (CPS MGs), both direct and alternating current systems (DC/AC). We investigate the role of CPS MGs in the backdrop of today's energy crises, globally. How CPS coordinated with consensus based distributed control algorithms could revolutionize the way we have still visualised the inter and intra MG power sharing! The exciting intricacies of the coupling of the physical and cyber networks have been explored. The correlation and synchronisation of power electronic devices into graph theory has been studied. Penultimately, we have investigated the various modes of transmitting data in order to optimise the associated communication costs. Ultimately, we have explored the realm of cyber security from the perspective of (industrial) control systems - the manner in which the control logics could be hacked by cyber attacks to lead to maloperation of the system. And we have proposed few considerable resilient operation schemes for detection and mitigation of these cyber attacks.
